“Pour Me A Glass of Passion” - Carina Lopes
It’s been a good night
for us.
You haven’t picked at my tearful charges and
I haven’t cried.
I smile,
You smile back.
My eyes start to tear though,
Remembering when that used to be sweet for us.
I see an ounce of annoyance pluck your brows as you notice.
Sorry.
Let’s redo that.
I cooked your favorite,
And I wore that hair tie you complimented last Thursday,
And you’re here tonight!
We stare, thinking of things to talk about.
It gets hard when everything I say now seems like another reason you say we don’t work.
I'm trying though.
I want it to work.
You ask me if I want anything to drink,
After you’ve already poured your glass.
I can’t hold out any longer,
“Pour me a glass of passion.”
